These two paintings looking very spiffy in their handcrafted frames, both going to the home of the same wonderful collector.
Just more Judes being gorgeous!

Summer Roses

32 x 40cm

Done (maybe, I hope), feels great, especially because unfortunately painting was interrupted and so new roses had to picked halfway through.

Basil is unsure.

WORKSHOP: PAINTING FLOWERS FROM LIFE

I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching a two day workshop in Blackheath at the @basbluemountains on the first weekend of May.

I will be sharing my materials, method and techniques, as we paint some fl
This painting of roses and plums from last year. Also pictures of the roses featured. Lady of Shalott is such a generous rose, I don’t think it is ever without a flower from early Spring to frost, it also has a really delicious spicy warm scent
Jude the Obscure, a really special David Austin rose with the most amazing scent like lychees and white wine and honey. I am so greedy I have five Judes in the garden, and they are now growing into really substantial bushes and have hundreds of buds
I grow lots of perennials (and some annuals too) beside the roses in my garden.

A few piccies of Munstead Wood rose in my garden. I love this rose so much I have ordered two more this year. Named for the great garden designer and writer (and artist) Gertrude Jekyll’s home. Hard to believe David Austin roses has discontinue
Hello! Sorry to have missed all your posts, I am finally back to painting after a nice long summer break spent mainly in the garden. So here is my first painting of 2023, which I hope is going to be a very rose filled year!

#munsteadwood #rosepaint
Happy New Year! I hope your 2023 is filled with lots of love and beauty. I am really excited to continue growing what we started last year. We launched Roam Adventures @roamguides in September and it is going really well, it is so exciting, so proud
Maybe finished…. haven’t decided if I want to put a few details on the leaves yet… I will sleep on it. 🥀

Just took these pics, so they are a bit too cool, the background is a warmer grey.

Beginning of a new painting. The main idea is broadly expressed, ready to begin exploring the more subtle forms and colour.

As you can see I picked armfuls of Jude the Obscure, but ended up going with a very simple composition, with just one rose.
Another painting of Jude the Obscure. Took my time on this one and I am not certain it’s finished…

Some garden photos.

1. Madame Hardy’s first bloom, don’t think I’ve ever seen such a perfect rose. Look at that green button eye!
2. Fantin Latour, maiden rose- the perfume! This is a centifolia named for the artist.
3. Olivia Ro
This afternoons’s quick allaprima sketch. Hopefully serve as a colour sketch for a larger painting. I really like the colours, but I think I am going to rearrange the composition a bit before tackling it again but slower. What do you think?

Delighted to be included in the @nationalemergingartprize’s ACB Selects Exhibition. It feels really special to have caught the eye of curator @amber_creswell_bell, who literally wrote the book on Still Life.

Thank you so much Amber, and congr
So I loved the little bee that came to visit my painting yesterday so much, I realised I should paint some in. 🐝

The way the bee was attracted to my painted roses, reminds me of how bees (and other insects and birds) have over evolutionary time bee
Perfection is the enemy of the good apparently- so the aim of this painting was to put colour down and not fuss too much. I really didn’t want to overwork the roses, fresh brushstrokes are needed to suggest the delicate petals. I still fussed m
Jude the Obscure, 20 x 20cm

This little painting, all dressed up in a bespoke frame. Made by hand by a very talented local framer, Christopher Lines. This will be available from Saturday at @floral_ink_bluemountains, please DM me with your email ad
Flower Piece II

Finally finished (hopefully!) 🥀 This is soo tricky to photograph and some colours have sunken in a bit as they dried, the whole painting will become really vibrant again once it gets varnished.

Excited
The annoying thing about anemones is how much they move. They close up at night. The closed up shapes are really charming. Anyway I am painting as fast as possible, also because I need this painting done and dry by thursday. I am putting it above the
Putting the the stigmas on the scabiosa flowers was a bit tense! I need to make myself a mahl stick.
My new easel has arrived! It is a custom made counterweight beast, that means I will be able to paint really big. The pulley mechanism means I can use just a finger to adjust the height of my canvas. I got an extra large tray added on as a palette, f
Flower Piece I

Oil on linen, 80 x 67cm

I realised I never shared a picture of this painting completed.

It will be on show very soon (from September 3) at @floral_ink_bluemountains in Wentworth Falls. Feel free to send me a DM with your email ad
A study of three Daffodils.

I just completed @carlorussoart’s online Dutch Flower Study workshop. Carlo generously shared his techniques and materials, and we watched him do three demonstrations. His technical mastery is amazing to watch, and
I am so pleased to tell you that this tiny (10x10cm) windflower painting is a finalist in the @littlethingsartprize! I cannot wait to see all the other finalists works at @saint_cloche.

Also thank you so much to everyone that ordered some cards/min
When I dusted off my palette and brushes seven months ago, after a four year hiatus, I had no expectations, but I definitely would never have dreamed that I would have completed so many works and had so many opportunities to show my paintings. Thank
Progress shot of this large (30x36”) painting underway. With anemones and orchids, and this vase, that I literally searched for six months for.

Do you like seeing progress photos, or do you prefer to just see completed works?

@eloisemaree posed for her second and final sitting for her portrait. Thank you so much Eloise, you are a dream to paint!

How cool are poppies?! I love their crinkly petals that unfurl like insect wings and their hairy alien buds.

Some details of this painting featuring orchids and poppies from @floral_ink_bluemountains where you will be able to see the whole thing &l
Working hard to try and complete this painting (and hopefully another one) in time for my show at @floral_ink_bluemountains in September. Of course the flowers have fallen over multiple times and the poppies broke but I had some spare, so I am forgin
‘Hazel’

I recently painted this portrait of this very sweet Vizsla, commissioned as a birthday present.
Hazel definitely lives up to the breed’s reputation of being ‘velcro dogs’, and never leaving their owner’s
Putting my brushes down on this painting. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the forms of these Phalaenopsis orchids and delphiniums from @floral_ink_bluemountains.

This painting and others will be on show there in Wentworth Falls from September 3rd.

Love how these three all look hanging together at @akbellingergallery. These three were painted very soon after Tristan and I recently got married and as Allison so kindly says are “pure romance”.

Hyacinths, overflowing

This beautiful bunch of hyacinths were gifted to me from the talented bunch at @floral_ink_bluemountains. If you are near or far, the shop in Wentworth Falls is always worth visiting, just to see the
Painting these sweet-peas was a delight. And a challenge. They demanded, I felt a bit more attention to detail than I normally give to flowers, to try to capture their delicacy and frills. But I also strove to keep my brushwork fresh and not overwork

Sweet peas

I have been thinking about painting sweet peas for a while, but when the bunch (from @floral_ink_bluemountains) was in front of me I was really daunted by their complexity. I did a little study and then I went for it! I really loved pai
