Spring roses and other garden delights.

Some snaps of the garden in mid Spring. This season has been dry and warmer than usual, and I have added dozens of new plants, so watering has been a big chore as they get established. The roses and coming into their first flush, along with foxgloves, oriental poppies, and lupins.

Oriental poppies and foxgloves

Old garden rose Madame Hardy. A once flowering Damask rose with perfectly formed rosettes with a green button eye and a sweet fragrance of honey. Exceptionally disease resistant and highly recommended.

David Austin rose ‘Shropshire Lad’ by the front door. This and other roses have been plagued by a wild looking caterpillar Chlenias auctaria, whose favourite food is evidently rosebuds.

Bearded irises

Rosa ‘Shropshire Lad’

Pink Russel lupins and white foxgloves.

Clematis ‘Gypsy Queen’ in her second year and really thriving on the front picket fence.

Rosa ‘Olivia Rose Austin’

Rosa ‘La Belle Sultane’ and Geranium ‘Rozanne’
